For many years this period was highlighted by forward thinking people as one likely to result in intense natural catastrophes, increased earthquakes, and vast social changes. In fact one book the Judgement of Jupiter by Richard Timms illustrated a clear connection between celestial activity and events here on Earth.

The prediction for this was based on numerous rare and concentrated planetary alignments that some went even so far as to say would topple the world on its axis.
