13th - 14th January 2009

This is one of a succession of days with a broadly similar mood outlook. Predominantly we see a sensitive and insecure emotional atmosphere with plenty of nervous energy that for some may get to become highly unsettling.

Most of the acute sensitivity of this period is a result of the alignment between the Sun and Neptune. For some days now this has brought vulnerable emotions that will easily tend towards escapism as well as neurotic thoughts and feelings. In addition there may be a high degree of emotional confusion and chaos so that decisions will be hard to make and important choices may be avoided until a more propitious period.

Sun/Mercury alignments may also incline towards powerful self refining gestures, but at the same time will easily make one prone to addictive traits such as drugs or alcohol or indeed the hundreds of other means to which people may resort to in order to take the edge off a very sensitive period.

Under these circumstances there may be reflective, nostalgic and sentimental mood leanings with particularly forceful emotions that for some may not be easy to come to terms with.

Mars and Jupiter are still very much in alignment and this is contributing to a degree of confrontation with the risk of aggression, confrontation and highly volatile arguments during which there may be little restraint in what is said or done. To some extent the Mars/Jupiter alignment may incline towards adventurous, fun loving or carefree enjoyment, but it all too readily degenerates into bullying, foolhardy, extravagant and even vulgar expression with very few limits on expression and behaviour.

The coming days will see the beginning of the so called ‘doldrum period’ which this month occurs midway between the Full Moon and New Moon. As frequent visitors to this site will know, the doldrum period is a time of reduced zest and enthusiasm that is also prone to attacks of melancholia and depression with flattened emotions and reduced self confidence.

Fortunately this ‘doldrum period’ is of short duration only and usually lasts while the Moon is around 55 - 35 % illuminated. On the more positive side this atmosphere still offers enough zestful energy for on going schemes and ventures, plus the potential to think of creative solutions to difficult situations.

As mentioned before the Sun/Neptune alignment can evoke psychic and mystical awareness and may open up inner pathways to new avenues of personal insight and enquiry.

Alert is 7.5. Moon 65% illuminated.
