We are now in one of the most delicate mood periods of the year. The proximity of Christmas together with the Solstice of only a few days ago, together with the fact that the Sun now appears to a background of our Galaxy, the Milky Way mean a time of the utmost sensitivity.

As we have mentioned many times already it was likely that this period of emotional vulnerability is probably the reason that since very earliest times this part of the year was given over to wild celebrations and festivities upon which the modern Christmas was superimposed.

The simple fact is that for various reasons, either through distorted cosmic radiation levels, geomagnetic activity, or the fact that in the northern hemisphere this is the darkest part of the year, sensitivities are often stretched to their limits. In turn this manifests in extremes of attitude and behaviour with changeable moods that can be unsettling. It means that this is a period that needs the utmost care and attention especially since ironically this is a time of year that is supposed to be associated with good will to everyone. Very definite tensions hold sway in what is habitually one of the years most difficult and challenging emotional periods. As well as firm astronomical reasons, which are included below there is also the proximity of Christmas which acts as its own mood source and can bring widely polarised emotions that can all too easily tend towards extremes.

In addition to this we have now commenced the rise to the next New Moon in around five days time. Likely mood traits to result from this include more aggressive, assertive and challenging feelings with strong passions that may all too easily find expression in volatile, violent, or confrontational moods and emotions. These feelings will also be magnified by the still continuing alignment between the Sun and Mars.

It should be noted that Saturn and Uranus still remain very much at the peak of their opposition and for some months now this has brought strained and polarised feelings that range from strongly ambitious or even ruthless inclinations to reserved, limited and, constrained feelings with low self esteem, confidence and well being. Today falls between two separate and distinct mood atmospheres both of which will at some point exert influence.

The first of these atmospheres is the still active ‘doldrum period’ which sees hesitant, reserved, flattened and at times even depressive moods and feelings. Added to this there is likely to be reduced confidence and inspiration so that it could feel harder to get going with poor motivation and initiative.

On the other hand this atmosphere is also influenced by the effects of the waning alignment between the Sun and Mars. For just over a month now this has brought more aggressive, forceful and dynamic feelings with high passion, enterprise and ambition.

Another important factor is that the first effects of the impending New Moon in six days time are beginning to make themselves apparent. These may tend towards zestful, animated and more vigorous feelings with a better sense of purpose, but also a tendency towards extremes, with the possibility of arguments, contentious encounters as well as violent or volatile behaviour.
