20th - 21st December 2008

Today falls between two separate and distinct mood atmospheres both of which will at some point exert influence.

The first of these atmospheres is the still active ‘doldrum period’ which sees hesitant, reserved, flattened and at times even depressive moods and feelings. Added to this there is likely to be reduced confidence and inspiration so that it could feel harder to get going with poor motivation and initiative.

On the other hand this atmosphere is also influenced by the effects of the waning alignment between the Sun and Mars. For just over a month now this has brought more aggressive, forceful and dynamic feelings with high passion, enterprise and ambition.

Another important factor is that the first effects of the impending New Moon in six days time are beginning to make themselves apparent. These may tend towards zestful, animated and more vigorous feelings with a better sense of purpose, but also a tendency towards extremes, with the possibility of arguments, contentious encounters as well as violent or volatile behaviour.

Emotionally this period is also important for numerous reasons. One is the proximity of Christmas. Christmas as a festive occasion is capable of evoking immense mood changes and these can range from a heightened sense of enjoyment and fulfilment to heavy depression along with suicidal thoughts and feelings. This means that Christmas is an important mood influence that needs to be factored into any interpretation of these times.

There is some evidence that astronomically speaking this period is also capable of evoking greatly heightened feelings. For example we are now only a day away from the winter/summer solstice - according to which hemisphere you are in -which this year occurs on December 21st at 12:04 PM GMT. Many believe that the solstice is capable of generating its own separate energies with increased awareness and perception, as well as an overall embellishment of sensual appreciation.

It is also at this time of the year that the Sun appears to move against the background of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. This conjoinment of Cosmic energy from the centre of the Galaxy can affect the Sun’s own magnetic field in subtle ways. In turn this influences people’s moods and perception and perhaps contributes to the sharpened emotional feel of Christmas and the overall festive period. It is also likely that this was why this period was chosen to commemorate the birth of Jesus, even if there is little scriptural evidence to support when precisely he was born.

Certain to say that this period is full of forceful energy that may at times bring pain and misery, but also exhilaration, zestfulness and a better sense of well being. Historically this period has always been associated with festivities that predate Christianity to a considerable extent. Some people feel it difficult to concentrate at this time and the theory is that because this period can be so unsettling it was largely given over to festivities to lighten the mood until replaced by a more propitious time.
