We are now just five days away from the New Moon and already the first signs of New Moon tensions are beginning to make themselves apparent.

As far as moods and feelings are concerned this will mean increased nervous tension and restlessness with heightened awareness and perception. Inevitably this will tend towards raised apprehensions and anxiety as well as baseless fears and concerns. In addition there is the potential for aggression and anger with the possibility of agitated and turbulent emotions together with arguments that may erupt on the merest pretext.

The propensity to contentious moods and feelings will be further reinforced by the continuing alignment between Mercury and Venus, both of whom are in opposition to Uranus. The Mercury/Venus element of this alignment may create keen and energetic moods with plenty of zestful enthusiasm. This will be complimented by friendlier and more affectionate emotions with a better sense of harmony and rhythm. However the effects of Uranus will be very strongly felt and this will all too readily incline towards extremes of emotion with the likelihood of erratic, strong willed and rebellious inclinations. We are still very much in what we sometimes refer to here as the ‘doldrum’ period, which lasts for no more than a couple of days and occurs midway between the Full Moon and New Moon or vice versa. This can create subdued and flattened emotions with reduced enthusiasm and optimism.

As well as anything this can lead to some degree of depression, melancholia, or reduced self confidence. The reality is that while there may be something of these feelings to the present atmosphere this is far from being a typical ‘doldrum’ period. The reason for this are numerous planetary alignments that are rendering a degree of heightened and at times volatile moods and feelings.

Other than the phase of the Moon the prime mood influencing factor of this time is the alignment between Venus and Mercury, both of which are in opposition to Uranus. This is creating a contrast of moods whereby the agreeable, affectionate and more harmonious nature of the Venus/Mercury alignment is countered by the erratic, self willed and divisive elements of Uranus. This can also create feelings that deviate powerfully from the norm with out of character emotions that may include thoughts and ideas that may seem as if they have come from the mind of another person. We are now coming to a point in the Lunar cycle that we often refer to here as the ‘emotional doldrums.’ This habitually occurs when the Moon is around 50% illuminated, or else mid way between Full Moon and New Moon or vice versa.

Usually at a time like this there is a noticeable diminishing in the intensity of moods and emotions, though this can sometimes result in a degree of melancholia or depression. This month however the ‘doldrum’ periods are not quite as sedate or nondescript as they usually are and although there may not quite be the same intensity of emotion as only a few days ago there is still need to be wary.

Aside from the current phase of the Moon the major mood influencing factor of this time is the alignment between Venus, Mercury, both of which are also in opposition to Uranus. As we have mentioned several times already this is leading to an atmosphere where more agreeable, affectionate and harmonious mood feelings are contrasted by altogether more extreme and demanding emotions as Uranus is habitually the planet that leads to a sharp deviation from the norm. What turns a normally placid and likeable young man from a professional background into a frenzied and brutal murderer who hacks to death his guardian in an unprovoked attack of astonishing ferocity?

This question may well continue to confound and perplex the minds of police and psychologists alike, but when we heard of this attack which occurred in London on the 14th of August last year we were sure this would lead to a Moon/Uranus alignment. And sure enough it did! The Moon and Uranus were indeed in opposition on that day and as frequent visitors will be aware we often highlight this routine but often eventful alignment as one to be viewed with the utmost caution.

Its likely traits range from extreme. bizarre and out of character behaviour so that even the most brutal of acts appear quite normal. Even more alarming is that these incidents frequently involve previously law abiding members of the public who under the strain of this alignment suddenly snap with quite brutal consequences. Today may see a slight diminishing in the intensity of moods and emotions but this still continues to be a highly complex mood period with several notable alignments that still continue to exert influence.

In many respects this current alert resembles the previous one with the dominant feature being the alignment between Mercury and Venus which are both in opposition to Uranus.
