9th - 10th August 2008

Today continues in the manner of preceding days with only subtle variations to register any noticeable change. As on previous days there is a strong influence from Neptune which is currently in alignment with the Sun and at the same time in opposition to Mercury. With regards to moods this is creating a delicate and refined mood pattern with sensitive and intuitive emotions that will be prone to idealistic, sentimental or nostalgic mood influences.

As we have already mentioned numerous times already in previous alert bulletins this may lead to enhanced mystical and spiritual awareness with heightened awareness and alertness with an insight that may touch upon a psychic degree of perception. As such this may open up the senses to new and rewarding experiences but may also lead to impressions and feelings that could prove disturbing.

The fact is we are still within a period that we often refer to here as the ‘emotional doldrums.’ This occurs at a time roughly midway between the New Moon and Full Moon and is characterised by lowered enthusiasm and inspiration and may well see a rise in melancholia, depression, or low self esteem and optimism.

This month the ‘doldrum’ period is not quite so straight forward and the influence of other factors, including one of the years most concentrated periods of planetary alignments means that it will not be as strongly felt as it normally is. Even so moods may be lacking a little by way of zestful enthusiasm and these inclinations may be further heightened by the start of an alignment between Venus and Saturn. This will last for just over a week and likely mood traits will include limited or disciplined feelings with a coolly affectionate disposition that may be vulnerable to selfish and exacting feelings with a strong element of loneliness. To some extent however these emotions will be balanced by the on going opposition between Mars and Uranus.

The Mars/Saturn opposition has been active now for just over two weeks and will remain influential until the last week of this month. During the course of its influence it has resulted in considerably more contentious moods and feelings with a tendency towards extremes which often results in quite notable news stories such as the current war involving the forces of Russia and Georgia. The Mars/Saturn alignment is also capable of erratic, restless, excitable, and extremely strong willed inclinations with rebellious and irritable behaviour that could lead to arguments and conflict with others.

The complex nature of this period is also plainly illustrated by the opposition between Mercury and Neptune. Although this will only be active for four or five more days it brings a strong tendency to confused thinking, with absent-mindedness and a tendency to vague fears and imaginings. As on previous days this mood harbours strong escapist tendencies that could mean it will be difficult to keep to a well ordered routine as other more exciting alternatives will be hard to resist. Under these circumstances there may also be a strong attraction towards substance abuse or drinking and eating more than usual as a means of relieving the obvious pressures of this period.

Once again this constitutes a complex mood atmosphere that for some could prove challenging. In addition there may be just a little less of the very striking sense of awareness that if not making the last week one of overwhelming well being, has at least served to introduce a period of unique opportunity by way of new influences and ideas. In its stead there may be a brief period of rather curtailed enthusiasm. On the other hand coming days will see a gradual rise in zestfulness as we begin the approach to the next Full Moon on the 16th of August.

Alert is 7.5. Moon 56% illuminated.
