Frequent visitors to this site will already be well aware that we are firmly convinced that major earthquakes cluster around the time of the Full or New Moon. However there is another, but less well known period around the time when the Moon is 50% illuminated (or square to the Earth and Sun) that can also give rise to major quakes. This was especially apparent today as a massive earthquake of 8.0 magnitude shook wide areas of China and beyond.

Although first reports indicated that casualties were low it is now reported that over 10,000 people may have died in the disaster with thousands of others made homeless.

As it is the incident serves as an apt illustration of a mini period of seismic danger that not many are aware of.

The principal feature of this present alert is the alignment of the Moon and Saturn, both of which will be in opposition to Neptune. This alignment commences around 15:00 GMT (11:00 EDT) and will persist until around 06:00 (02:00 EDT) on the 13th of August.

Likely mood traits to result from this alignment include a lowered sense of enthusiasm and inspiration with the likelihood of a pessimistic outlook with lowered self confidence. In addition there is likely to be a depressive, inhibited or restrained emotional disposition with cool self disciplined habits.

These circumstances may also dispose towards easy misunderstandings and emotional disappointments with frustration and a sense of personal limitation.
